Andreas Fliflet - Composer and Musician
Andreas Fliflet is a musician and composer, and holds the position of associate professor at the University of Tromsø Norway's Arctic University Conservatory. He earned his degree from Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory, where he studied with, among others Dave Holland, Paul Bley and George Russell. For many years he worked as a regional musician based in Hammerfest, and has toured with, among others Mory Kante and Angelique Kidjo. As a composer he has composed and produced music for a wide variety of choreographies and productions related to Stellaris DansTeater and Dansearena nord. Otherwise Fliflet works a lot with the project Jienat and make audiophile surround field recordings in different corners of the world, but mostly in northern Scandinavia and the Barents Region. Jienat's sound is based on Sami and Arctic vocal traditions. The record "Mira" reached first place for radio play in the United States in World Music / New Age, and their third album is in production. Fliflet principal instrument is electric bass, but he reached the finals in the Finnish Open Championships in traditional sawplay. He was also motorsawplayer on NRK's "National vedkveld." He is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, AES and Sami composers among others, and has had a seat on the Northern Norwegian Arts Council. He is co-author of the textbook "Trollstilt (Gyldendal, 1999).
