- a
choreography with dance and live music by Solveig
Leinan-Hermo -
Dans Meridian was made for
a ceremony at The Meridian Column in Hammerfest (Norway)
marking The Struve Geodetic Arc’s entry on UNESCO’s World
Heritage List the 17th of June 2006. The work was created
initiated by Hammerfest kommune. Even though The Struve
Geodetic Arc as a world heritage is only 200 years old,
it holds it's place as an epic work that people can gain
insight into now that it is on UNESCO’s World Heritage
List. The Struve Geodetic Arc represents an exceptional
scientific work of high quality, a technique which today
is historic, as well as it initiated international
collaboration to gain common scientific goals, as we know
it today.
The choreography was originally made as a two-part, outdoor, site-specific piece for six dancers and one singer. The first part was performed on a house roof and the second part circling around the points of The Meridian Column in Hammerfest (Norway). the choreography has also been reworked for the stage, and has also been shown at Hurtigruta (Norwegian cruise boat).
