Mother Courage and her children
- Collaboration with Samovarteateret -

BY BERTOLT BRECHT
MUSIC BY PAUL DESSAU
PUBLISHER: NORDISKA ApS - Copenhagen

The performance is a collaboration between
Samovarteateret and Stellaris DansTeater, with a spanish director and an ensemble from Norway, Denmark and Russia.

Berthold Brecht wrote the play ”Mother Courage and her children” in 1939, and he drew parallels to the turn of events in Europe just prior to World War II. The play itself is set in the 30 Year War that took place in Europe from 1618-1648. A war that came out of a religious conflict that ended in one of the bloodiest and longest wars in European history.

Mother Courage follows the war around Europe together with her three children and her sales wagon, offering her goods to the fighting parties to make money. During the course of the play, she loses all her children to the war.
